Roadside Barred Owl

By | August 10, 2017

I spotted this Barred Owl standing on the side of the road at the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge back in August of 2009. I’m sure it had been after some type of meal that it had seen on the road. I was able to stop my vehicle a distance away from the Owl to get this photo. I was using my Canon 500mm f/4 L lens so this helped me to keep my distance. Most of the time it is difficult to photograph wildlife that is in front of my vehicle¬† because I need to open my door to get my camera into position. Doing this will scare wildlife a lot of the time. I do get lucky once in awhile if I take it slow and don’t make sudden moves or any noise. A short time later this Barred Owl flew to a nearby tree.
